ABOUT US

David has been involved in horticulture since 1992, he ran his own maintenance round at the age of 15 and worked for local nurseries and garden centers under the guidance of Diane Harrison who hosted the Radio Lancashire gardener’s question time program. He went on to gain his National Diploma in Horticulture at Myerscough College. David took two years out during the college course to work for HRH Prince Charles at his home in Tetbury, during his time at Highgrove, he worked with garden designers Julian Bannerman & the late Rosemary Verey of Barnsley House – he completed the ground work for the famous ‘Stumpery’ and worked alongside the designer (Julian Bannerman) and the Head Gardener David Magson to complete its construction. David was responsible for maintaining and adding to the Highgrove cottage gardens, designed by Rosemary Verery. The time he spent at Highgrove and Myerscough sharpened his plantsmanship and horticulture knowledge and shaped his planting choices and design influences.

Upon Graduation from college, David went on to ‘cut his teeth’ for a family who own a lovely property and garden in the Cotswolds, he is still in touch with the family who have provided testimonials relating to his character and work ethic.

In 1999, David started work on The Old Zoo project in Lancashire’s Ribble Valley. In close conjunction with the owner, Gerald Hitman, he implemented and altered an existing design (conceived by G Hitman & Keith Pullan Garden Design) for the area around the house and progressed to design and build the remaining 14 acres of garden including construction of a lake, woodland garden, a 1km maze (designed by G Hitman), a bonsai garden, an outdoor chapel (designed by G Hitman) along with construction of various other art installations and planting schemes.

Work at The Old Zoo was completed in 2005, David went on to work for Blakedown Landscapes, where he managed several large landscape construction jobs including the renovation of Park Square in Leeds and the external works to the new IKEA store in Ashton Under Lyne.

For the last six years, David has been busy creating gardens, parking areas and landscape features in conjunction with the chairman of CGP Ltd in South Lakeland.
